[read the article here]

Litter is a permanent problem in our neighbourhood and despite it costing thousands to clear up, some people think it is still alright to throw there litter on the ground.

Our aim is to make these litter louts think twice about using Semilong Northampton streets as a litter bin and to reduce the amount of litter that our residents have to put up with.

Mini-Mopeds - What's The Deal?

Imagine the scene, you are sitting at home late on a summer's evening, windows open, maybe you have just put the baby to bed. Or perhaps you are curled up on the sofa watching a bit of television before turning in for the night.

Then all of a sudden one of these mini-mopeds starts buzzing up and down the street. Grrrrrr. Time to shut the windows. Stop !!

Why should you? Why should the peace of you and your family be disturbed by some noisy lout? Why should you have to close your windows and suffer the heat? Why should someone be free to act in such an inconsiderate way affecting not only you and your family but also every resident up and down the street..just so they can get their kicks riding about.

Also if, whilst they are riding on the roads..or footpaths they hit a pedestrian, the consequences can be devastating. The effects can be life changing or even fatal. It is made worse by the fact that many of the louts who ride these mini-mopeds in such an inconsiderate way are un-insured.

All they care about is having fun with absolutely no thought of the residents who have to suffer the noise or the consequences of colliding with someone.

SEMILONG.ORG Acts Against These Anti-Social Louts

On 23rd May 2009, a member of SEMILONG.ORG heard, saw, photographed and captured on video, one of these mini-mopeds going up and down the streets of Semilong in Northampton.

The police were called on the non-emergency number and SEMILONG.ORG have since heard that as a result of that call one person was arrested and the bike seized. (The police have the lawful power to have these bikes crushed in certain circumstances)

This is a tremendous result for SEMILONG.ORG who in the past have heard other residents complain about mini-mopeds buzzing about the Semilong Northampton neighbourhood, disturbing their lives.

Northamptonshire Police are also to be praised. They have shown that even on a busy Saturday night, when no doubt they would have been busy elsewhere in Northampton, that they respond to the concerns of residents in regard to anti-social louts who affect the lives of the Semilong community.

We will be publishing the photographs and video of this noisy anti-social lout soon.

Watch this space.

Our Advice To Mini-Moped Riders / Owners

  • Get insured, taxed and LEGAL.
  • Do not ride on pavements.
  • Ride well away from residential areas in an area that is safe for you and all those around you.
  • Be considerate at all times.
  • If you fail to heed the above advice, be prepared to be arrested and /or having your loved mini-moped crushed. Perhaps worse, be prepared to feature on SEMILONG.ORG as an anti-social lout.

We, as a community together, can make a difference.
