Northamptonshire County Council

Northamptonshire County Council seem a distant authority don't you think? A case of what they do, doesn't involve our little community. Wrong.

They are responsible for the upkeep of roads in Semilong Northampton (see road maintenance), for our libraries, schools, children's welfare, leisure facilities, parking (including parking fines), street furniture like road markings and signs and a shed load of other responsibilities.

SEMILONG.ORG have contacted Northamptonshire County Council numerous times to repair street lights which are faulty, to unblock drains on roads and most importantly..to repair our roads.

It seems that considering all the money they get from our Semilong Northampton community, they do all they can to avoid spending it in our neighbourhood.

SEMILONG.ORG will continue to press Northamptonshire County Council to repair our roads and to invest in our Semilong community and neighbourhood through highlighting the issues that THEY are responsible for.

County Council Election
June 4th 2009

The 4th June 2009 saw a turnout figure of only 26.65%, It appears rather than voting for a candidate of choice, most of the electorate in Semilong Northampton, (73.35%) simply did not go out and vote.

Despite the 5384 people choosing not to vote and due to our`first past the post` voting system, Mr Clarke was elected as our County Councillor with a vote of only 760. The voting system is significant because the combined number of people who voted against him was 1196 compared with the 760 actually who voted for him.

However, Tony Clarke is for the next four years, our County Councillor for Semilong Northampton.. Let's see what he does for us... [Read the article here]

Northamptonshire County Council Working For Semilong Northampton?

Look around Semilong and the rest of Northampton. Do you think the Conservative Northamptonshire County Council have improved our neighbourhood?

  • Pot-holes - Despite all the rhetoric from our representatives in the Northamptonshire County Council, pot holes continue to blight our neighbourhood. Every month members of SEMILONG.ORG raise pot holes as an issue. In fact much like the 'Adopt a Tree' or Adopt a Zoo Polar Bear' campaigns that have been run elsewhere, someone in SEMILONG.ORG joked about setting up an 'Adopt a Pot Hole Campaign'.

SEMILONG.ORG have taken photographs of the problem and the feedback shows shock from people all over the country that our roads in Semilong are this bad. In some places the road is down to the old cobble-stones!!

SEMILONG.ORG have contacted Northamptonshire County Council for a response to this. They have asked residents to report pot holes and they will be repaired when they are bad enough. SEMILONG.ORG believe they are missing the point, residents shouldn't have to be reporting pot holes every month. The roads should be stripped and re-laid once and for all. This would also solve the rollercoaster effect when driving along some of the roads in the neighbourhood.
  • Education - Castle Primary School in St Georges Road in Semilong Northampton was recently praised by Government inspectors. Was this due to the work of the County Council supporting education in Semilong, or was the achievement despite the efforts of County Council. You decide...
  • Waste and Recycling - Without question, recycling has been a success of the County Council with the quantities being recycled far exceeding the targets. Though it has been questioned how much of this recycled material is actually being recycled and how much is taken from the recycling centres straight to landfill because of the inability to handle the vast quantities.
  • Financial Mismanagement - At a time when the whole country is facing financial difficulties and many in our community have lost their jobs, Northamptonshire County Council squandered away £32 MILLION for which only apologies were given to the people of this county. Apparently it didn't even warrant the rolling of heads !!

Is The Northamptonshire County Council Necessary?

It has been raised in the media, if we really need a county council at all !!
This perhaps shows the public view of the achievements of the currently elected Northamptonshire County Council.

Perhaps it is time for a change, YOU DECIDE...

We, as a community together, can make a difference.
