[read the article here]

Litter is a permanent problem in our neighbourhood and despite it costing thousands to clear up, some people think it is still alright to throw there litter on the ground.

Our aim is to make these litter louts think twice about using Semilong Northampton streets as a litter bin and to reduce the amount of litter that our residents have to put up with.

Since our last update SEMILONG.ORG have been extremely busy. We have:

  • Launched ouselves on TWITTER (Profile: SEMILONG)

  • Created a separate TWITTER page on this site where you can see not only our `tweets` but also those of our twinned neighbourhood group of STPETERSNM.COM

  • Presented Northampton Borough Council's Environmental Crime team with the evidence of fly-tippers treating our Semilong Northampton neighbourhood like a rubbish tip. This resulted in the cautioning of two fly-tippers in Semilong Northampton. (and more are to follow)

  • Presented evidence to Northampton Borough Council of a litter lout who discarded litter from his car in Semilong Northampton.

  • Reported graffiti, pot holes, litter and fly-tipping to the Street Care Team of Northampton Borough Council for clearance / repair.

  • Worked with the website FIXMYSTREET.COM not only to publically highlight issues in the Semilong Northampton neighbourhood across the whole internet, but also to get those issues brought to the attention of Northampton Borough Council or where relevant Northamptonshire County Council.

  • Launched SEMILONG.ORG onto FLICKR (profile SEMILONG.ORG) which is a great medium to present the photographs of our neighbourhood.

  • Supported our twinned neighbourhood group of STPETERSNM.COM in their very successful and nationally reported upon `RISK IT OR BIN IT` anti-litter campaign.

  • Monitored the prostitution problem in Quorn Way and reported incidents to Northamptonshire Police for their attention and action.

These matters and more will be discussed over the next few weeks to bring you totally up to date with all our efforts to improve our Semilong Northampton area.

20th September 2009

Launch of our new look and updated website. After months of behind the scenes work the site has now gone live which we at SEMILONG.ORG are incredibly proud of.

We would also like to pass on our best wishes to the Semilong Neighbourhood Watch Scheme which was set up in July and their website at http://semilongNHW.co.uk has also gone live.

The group at SEMILONG.ORG had an online brainstorming session at the start of this week to come up with new projects for the new website. You will see the first of these shortly.

Thanks for your patience during this major overhaul of the site.

Please note that our old domain at SCN-Northampton.com will cease in the next few weeks, so if you need to do so, please update your bookmark to SEMILONG.ORG soon.
