Northamptonshire Police Safer Community Team

Northamptonshire Police have a devoted Safer Community Team working in the Castle Ward which Semilong is a part of.

The team consists of a Police Sergeant, Police Constables, Police Community Support Officers, and Special Constables. The Neighbourhood Warden from Northampton Borough Council is also a member of this team.

Priorities

They have a system of priorities which the community set for them to work towards.

The current priorities for September 2008 to December 2008 are:

  • Reducing street prostitution in Spring Boroughs
  • Tackling drugs - drug dealing across the SCT
  • Graffiti in St James

Police Operations

The Castle Safer Community Team in Northampton run operations from time to time to achieve their priorities.

For example they ran an operation over four weekends to help tackle anti-social behaviour in the Millers Meadow Park area.

This was after several incidents of damage to the playground equipment within the park had been reported, specifically a knife or another bladed instrument being used to damage the swings.

Special Constables patrolled the area in the early evening and into the night, concentrating on the park area and using stop-search powers where appropriate.

These operations provide much needed reassurance to members of the public who take their children to the park.

Cars Seized In Police Crackdown

OFFICERS from Northamptonshire Police and Northampton Borough Council have removed 18 untaxed cars from the Castle ward area.

The cars were removed recently by officers from the two organisations.

Some of the cars were abandoned outside people’s homes, causing problems for local residents. Other cars became focal points for anti-social behaviour such as graffiti and vandalism.

Sergeant Louise Simpson said: “Abandoned vehicles are a blight on the community.

“Officers have been working with Northampton Borough Council’s wardens to have these vehicles removed. This has had a positive impact on local residents, reducing anti-social behaviour and making the area a generally much nicer place to live.

“We would advise people not to leave untaxed vehicles on the streets or they could be removed and even end up being crushed.”

Meeting Residents

Safer Community Team Police Officers often bring the mobile Police Station to Semilong Northampton. It acts as a point of contact for residents.
